King Faisal Hospital yesterday donated a grain mill and electricity to 44 families of Genocide survivors in Gikomero Sector, Gasabo District.

Dr. Emile Rwamasirabo, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, said the donation was aimed at helping beneficiaries become self-reliant.

"We have helped them with basic gear so that they will learn how to live by themselves; that is a taste of self-reliance. They will make profit from the opportunity given today [and strive] for independence,” he said

Rwamasirabo added that there would always be vulnerable people in society and asked those with means to embrace a culture of giving to fellow Rwandans in need. 

"We have to continue helping our Genocide survivors, instead of relying on foreign aid,” he 

"We were in darkness, our children could not do home work as we could not afford candles all the time, "said Ancille Gasengayire, one of the beneficiaries.

The survivors welcomed the donation, saying the facility was needed in the area because residents move long distances for milling machines as far as Kabuga and River Muhazi.

Emile Rusine, another beneficiary, said they will save earnings from the facility and invest in small businesses.
