NYAGATARE — Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, the Eastern Province governor and area RPF chairman, has urged party faithful to move door-to-door to canvas support for RPF parliamentary candidates.

Speaking during a fundraising function at Umutara Polytechnic in Nyagatare on Tuesday, Dr. Kabaija said campaigners should move beyond trading centres to villages.

"Trading centres most times don’t attract genuine voters,” Kabaija told party members at the university main hall.

"Most rallies in trading centres are attended by children who are attracted by music and other pomp. The old people who are eligible voters shun noisy places, so you have to move house to house in your respective villages (Midugudu) and cells.”

"Don’t sit and think that people out there know the procedures and requirements for voting. We have had many cases in past elections where people waste ballot papers,” Kabaija added.

The official campaigns will start on August 25. Connie Bwiza Sekamana is the RPF candidate for Nyagatare district. During the campaigns, he said, members should sensitize residents on other government programmes of economic development.

"In your campaigns don’t use intimidation but just show residents the achievements of RPF since it took over,” the governor advised the participants.

Robert Kashemeza, Nyagatare Mayor and district party chairman expressed optimism that the district would score highest countrywide in rallying support for party candidates. He also urged party members on discipline and upholding electoral laws during campaigns.
