PRIMUS GUMA Guma Super Star season 4 live shows continued last Saturday in Muhanga district. Christopher had a better performance this time round compared to the Kigali live show and Bruce Melody blew the whole competition open with his backup dancers.

This week, they review their performance in Muhanga and what they plan for the remaining performances.

Christopher

Why did you choose to perform Habona and Irijoro?

We usually practice four songs but Habona and Irijoro are more popular. I can’t say there’s any specific reason behind my choice but I can say that I‘m comfortable performing any of the four.

How would you rate your last two live performances vis-a-vis the competition’s criteria?

I believe I’m doing my best and in a better position. It is hard at times to please the judges and the audience but I will continue trying.

Looking at your past live show performances, was it the best you could give?

Certainly not my best but I liked my performance in Muhanga. I still have a lot of work to do but so far, so good.

Anything you could have done better?

I don’t think so because I had prepared for it but things change that we have no control over. All I have to do is improve on all areas necessary and leave the rest to God.

Do you see any challenges?

The only challenge that I see is to try and balance my performance. I have an audience to entertain yet the judges are also looking at other factors that might conflict with the public’s demand.

Anything new people should expect in Musanze?

I was good in Muhanga but I’ll be better in Musanze. Being better and bolder in my performances is a factor I intend to incorporate in my performances.

Playback or live shows?

Given the chance I would actually ban playbacks. They spoil music and they are not good for anyone who aspires to be a great musician.

You had a good performance in Muhanga, how did you prepare for it?

After the Kigali live show, I promised myself to do better and I could only achieve that by pushing myself harder. I did rehearsals, practiced dance moves with my backup dancers and got acquainted with the band. I’m glad that I delivered the way I planned to.

What sets you apart from other contestants?

I have strong vocals, energetic performances and a wide range of songs. I always give the best to my performances and my songs are mixed. Some songs are RnB, and some are rock. The backup dancers usually add something special to my performances.

How do you balance your performance between the audience and the judges?

Usually the first song I perform is meant to impress the judges and the second song is for the audience. That way, I get to balance the two.

Anything you wish you could change in your performances?

Nothing, maybe to perform better otherwise I think everything is good.

You have excellent dancers, is that part of your strategy?

Music and dance go hand-in-hand. I couldn’t do it before because the songs weren’t live. As for the live shows, it would be a disservice to the audience not to give them some entertainment.

What do you think of the other contestants’ performances?

It is a tough race. Everyone is pulling out all the tricks to make sure they emerge winner. So, I would say that everyone is strong and the race is just beginning.

What should the public expect in Musanze?

I’m working on a lot of things to spice up my remaining performances. As I said, the race is just starting and I’m not taking the back seat.
