Northern Corridor projects will deliver EAC integration agenda

Editor,

Refer to the story, "Northern Corridor meet to assess projects implementation” (The New Times, June 30). The secret of successful implementation in such multi-country projects is close oversight from the national CEOs.

It puts the bureaucrats responsible for executing the projects, who might otherwise be tempted to slacken their efforts for all sorts of plausible excuses, on notice that their principals are watching and keeping tabs on progress, and that they better shape up because their bosses will not accept any excuses for not delivering on their commitments.

These regular summits send out a clear message; at the next get-together of the Heads of State, the bureaucrats better show tangible progress towards achieving the goals set by their principals.

Kudos to Presidents Paul Kagame, Uhuru Kenyatta and Yoweri Museveni for their determination to make our East Africa (at least its Northern Corridor component) truly integrated and functioning to deliver tangible benefits to its people.
