Tall, brown and good looking are the first words that come to mind when you see Vanessa Nkesha, the Head Prefect of Kigali Christian School.
However, the description would be incomplete if it did not go on to include the leadership potential of this young, ambitious woman who, in January this year, thoroughly thrashed her opponent in a democratic vote.
Since then, it seems that nothing can stop this go-getter as she continues to introduce a number of constructive developments in her school.
A highly innovative student, Nkesha pioneered the establishment of the first ever debate club in the Christian school. This club has attracted a number of students and has undoubtedly contributed to the excellent communication skills by the KCS students.
Given her tight schedule, one might be tempted to think that Nkesha has magical powers, considering that she manages to maintain excellent academic performance without negatively impacting her performance as a leader.
A student of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, the charismatic Head Prefect continues to inspire more female students at the school to take on science combinations in higher classes because of her good grades.
However, the road has not been all roses for the young scholar. In her first days of office, the administration tasked her to be the link between teachers and students and forward the views of the student body to the administration.
One of her bigger challenges to date came when over 500 students entrusted her with the duty of requesting permission to hold a genocide commemoration at the school. Nkesha had to deliver now or see her ability to represent the students undermined.
Through skillful negotiation, she was able to persuade the administration, and the function was held by the school on Monday this week.
According to her teachers, Nkesha’s greatest strength lies in her ability to coordinate several activities because of her time management skills, respect and discipline.
