Charles Ntare scooped his first silverware for the 2007 golf season after winning inaugural Hema and Gisorora event on Saturday at Kigali Golf Club, Nyarutarama.
Ntare carded 70 net to shield off a late challenge from Andrew Nkwandi who finished as first runner up with 72 net.
In the national team category, Jean Baptiste Hakizimana, Rwanda’s number one amateur golfer still failed to click as Ernest Ndayisenga and Olivier Munyaneza dominated the spot light with 67 and 71 net respectively.
Hakizimana finished off with 74 net.
However, KGC’s club captain Rajan Tawari has backed Hakizimana to recover his form in the near future.
"He is just being a little careless out there.
He has a high handicap and all he needs to work on is the mental aspect of his game,” Tawari says.
"I intend to work closely with him.
What’s important now is to help him not to be easily swayed away by simple mistakes or the opposition,” the club captain continued.
Alphonsine Murekatete claimed the ladies’ category after carding 70 net. Over 50 golfers turned up for the tournament.
