It was a grainy scene. People looked on as he whimpered in pain. Blood oozed out of a deep cut on his left arm. This was after the motorcycle he was riding got involved in an accident with a vehicle in Remera last week.

While you would expect the first people on the accident scene to rush the victim to hospital, in this case it was not the case as people looked on waiting for Police to come and establish who between the motorcyclist and the other motorist was in the wrong as the injured man lay on the ground helpless.

Efforts by a Good Samaritan to rush him to hospital were frustrated by the mob, which insisted that Police had to first come and examine the accident scene before he could be taken to hospital.

Sadly, this is what happens often when an accident occurs in town.

The priority is always about waiting for Police to come rather than rushing the injured to hospital or to give them first aid.

We can do better and Police should discourage this habit and sensitise the public on this trend which, unfortunately, the public has come to embrace

Saving a life is more important than establishing who was in the wrong.
