The New Times’ Sports editor, Hamza Nkuutu, yesterday flew to Brazil to cover the 2014 World Cup.

He’s one of the two lucky Rwandan journalists who’ll cover the World Cups finals, the other one being Jean de Dieu Bagirishya of Radio 10 and TV 10.

Bagirishya will leave on Saturday.

Airtel Rwanda provided the air-tickets.

The duo will head back home after the World Cup finals on July 16.

They will cover matches from the quarter final round until the final on July 13. These games will be held in Salvador, Sao Paulo, Belo-Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.

"I’m excited and humbled by the opportunity,” Nkuutu said. "I’m not only looking forward to reporting on the matches from some of the great arenas of world football, but also to enjoy these games which are taking place in the spiritual home of world football,” he noted.

Nkuutu also covered the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands in South Africa, which the former won 1-0.
