BURERA District Advisory Council has passed a Rwf10.5 billion Budget for the Financial Year 2014/15.

The council chairperson, Celestin Bumbakare, said the Budget is aligned to the country’s second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS II), with education and infrastructure among the priorities.

Rurangwa said the budget, which reduced from Rwf10.8 last financial year, will cater for activities such as construction of classrooms, roads and extension of electricity and clean water to residents.

 "Education, agriculture, social welfare, especially health and in infrastructure development, have been allocated the biggest proportion,” Bumakare said.

Raymond Kamanzi, the district executive secretary, attributed the cut to some development partners who pulled out their support for the next financial year.

He said the district expects Rwf500 million from local revenues and pledged they will work together to boost them.

"We want to work to improve infrastructure such as roads, hotels and other tourist features that will attract investors to boost local revenues,” Kamanzi said.

Bumbakare urged district officials to work hard to ensure speedy implementation of the planned projects.

The officials expressed optimism that their budget will be well used and contribute to the national development.

Elsewhere in Nyabihu District in Western Province, the district council on Friday approved a Rwf9.3 billion Budget for the next financial year with infrastructure, agriculture, health and education among the priorities.
