Students promoting gender in the School of Finance and Banking (SFB) Friday met with their counterparts from the Institut Superieur d’agriculture et d’elevage (ISAE) Busogo, to exchange views on the promotion of gender equality.

32 students from ISAE Busogo represented their institution at the SFB conference hall. The meeting focused on the challenges faced in the promotion of gender.

According to the SFB Vice Rector in charge of Finance and Administration, Nathan Gashaija, students handling gender issues manifest a step taken in the promotion of gender equality.

"You are in the right forum to discuss what the government has put as a development issue. As students you are the right people to discuss the issue extensively to come up with tangible ideas,” Gashaija noted.

He said that gender is a cross-cutting issue of development in Rwanda and has been recognized in the constitution and all spheres of life.

The students’ Gender Minister in ISAE Busogo, Raissa Akimana, pointed that some of the challenges include lack of confidence in their capacity by female students.

She however mentioned that there has been improvement in gender promotion at her school. Her counterpart at the SFB, Raissa Umutoni said that students have to understand gender equality and sensitize their fellow students and people from where they come from.

She recognised the  need to involve boys in the promotion of gender equality in the country.
