Residents of Isangano in Ubumwe cell, Muhima sector last weekend organized a village get together party (locally known as Ubusabane) aimed at fostering unity.

The General Secretary for National Commission of Unity and Reconciliation, Fatuma Ndangiza, hailed the village level leadership for having spared a thought for promotion of unity in their area. She advised residents to teach their children values which foster unity in society.

"Parents, teach your children what is right and in the future they will be good residents,” she said.

Fatuma added that such occasions should continue because they bring residents together and they interact. She called upon other villages to emulate Ubumwe cell if Rwanda is to achieve its goal of unity in the entire country.

The Ubumwe cell Chairman, Christopher Ruzindana, said that the reason they organise such functions is because they play a central role in preserving our social structures which are key in fostering unity and reconciliation.

Rwanda is emerging from one of the most traumatic experiences in modern history having suffered a Genocide where almost a million Tutsis were massacred.

The destruction of the social and economic structures of the country and the trauma left behind, are the most critical aftermath of the genocide.
