AFTER EXITING the Kenya Open championship, Rwanda’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa is now focused on winning this year’s BRD Rwanda Liberation Day tennis tournament set for early next month.
The 30-year- old Gasigwa suffered a semi final defeat at hands of Uganda’s archrival Duncan Mugabe.
He suffered a disappointing 2-6 3-6 loss to Mugabe. However, theUgandan failed to retain the title after losing to 17-year-old Kenyan Mzai Ismal Changawa 4-6 4-6 in the finals.
Gasigwa, a former two-time champion of the BRD-sponsored competition said, "I am gearing up for the BRD Liberation Day tournament. I want to prepare well such that I can stage a good performance.”
"It will also serve as my training platform ahead of the international competitions such as Uganda Open and Davis Cup among others,” he added.
Gasigwa won the tournament in 2010 and 2011 while seed two Dieudonne Habiyambere won it 2012. The competition was not held last year.
