THE WOMEN FOOTBALL team (She-Wasps) has acquired Fifa ranking for the first time following their participation in this year’s qualification for the Africa Women Championship which will be staged in Namibia later this year.
Grace Nyinawumuntu’s outfit is ranked 125th in the world and 34th in Africa according to the new women Fifa rankings released this week in Zurich, Switzerland.
The ranking came weeks after She-Wasps were demolished by the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the final round of the qualification round for Namibia 2014 African Women’s Championship (AWC).
Nigeria qualified for the forthcoming 2014 African Women’s Championship (AWC) after hitting their hapless She-Wasps 8-0 in the return fixture to add on their 4-1 win in the first leg. Nigeria, the six-time African champions, top the rankings in Africa and are 34th worldwide. Ghana and Cameroon are ranked in the top three on the African continent.
The top three in the world remain unchanged as USA, Germany and Japan occupy these spots respectively. There has been only one alteration in the top ten, with Australia rising to ninth at the expense of Korea DPR.
The next Fifa/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 19 September 2014.
