Tries from Jean Paul Karenzi, Marcel Koko, Gerald Niyoneza, Abdul Ngoge and a conversion by Lucie Bikamba helped the Silverbacks beat visiting Penguin side 22-19 in a friendly match on Saturday.

The game, played at Amahoro National stadium, attracted a massive crowd of rugby enthusiasts.

The guests were the first to score a try through Smith Buchavan before Koko leveled with wonderful try after a clever move by Jean Baptiste Itanzi.

Silverbacks took the lead when Karenzi and Niyoneza added a try apiece to send the crowd into celebrations.  Buchavan added a second try for Penguins and Yoville Seymour Irvine was also on the score sheet with a try of his own, while David Cockburn scored a conversion.

After the game, Tony Penn, the Penguin International rugby team captain, paid tribute to the Silverback performance.

"They (Rwandan players) have amazing skilled,” he said shortly after the game, before adding, "They play with a lot of confidence; the future of Rwandan ruby looks bright.”
