Old taxis should be abolished from Kigali’s roads

Dear editor,

The extent to which people are losing their lives at the hands of taxi drivers is unacceptable. The recklessness associated with some drivers should seriously be addressed.

Since I just lost a relative in a road accident last week, I believe it is high time someone made a lot of noise concerning the old taxis on the roads and the undisciplined drivers who over speed.

The fact that major roads in Kigali and other parts of Rwanda are well made, should not be an excuse to over speed.

To add more insult to injury, the roads are flooded with traffic policemen but still the drivers cannot slow down their cars.

I urge the responsible authorities in charge of road safety to ensure that old taxis are banned from the roads and severe punishment for over speeding vehicles be put in place.
