Silverbacks face touring Penguin in rugby friendly

Rwanda national rugby team, Silverbacks will this afternoon take on visiting English side Penguin in a friendly 15s match at Amahoro national stadium.

This friendly was organised by Rwanda Rugby Federation in conjunction with Dave Hughes, who has been sponsoring the national Rugby team tours in Hong Kong every year.

The Penguins are the most touring rugby side in the world. It is a large community of rugby players who are still playing professionally and others who are rugby veterans, coaches, referees and technical directors from especially the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

"I am  truly passionate about Rwanda rugby team, I have been sponsoring the national rugby team to Hong Kong for the past few years but now I want to fully develop the sport here in Rwanda,” said Hughes. He says the purpose of the Penguin’s tour and more so the friendly is to develop the sport by teaching young players to understand the game more.

The Penguin delegation arrived in Kigali on Wednesday.

Rwanda recently qualified to the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Division Three after winning the three-nation Division Two qualifier tournament held in Kigali. DR Congo and Burundi were the other teams.
