AS Kigali women football club coach Grace Nyinawumuntu has said the women football league is not enough to spur the development of women’s football in Rwanda.
Nyinawumuntu, who also doubles as the national team (She-Amavubi) head coach, made the comment after her side retained the league title for a record-extending sixth time in a row.
Military side APR were champions of the inaugural championship in 2008 but their legacy did not last long.
The Kigali-city sponsored AS Kigali claimed the title last weekend after smashing rivals Kamonyi 4-0 in the final at Kigali Regional Stadium.
"Of course we have to be happy for the sixth title but much as a victory is sweet, I’m afraid our league is losing taste and sense.
Winning the league title unbeaten in a row shows how weak other participants are or maybe we are just too strong for other teams,” she wondered.
The former national team central defender noted, "The football federation (Ferwafa) has to play a big role in reinforcing the women’s league so that we can have a strong national team.”
