As age catches up, there is a time for men to quit trying too hard fashion wise or there is a risk of looking like they skipped a stage of childhood. This is the time when all there is to do is watch fashion trends from a distance and comment without trying them.
As age catches up, there is a time for men to quit trying too hard fashion wise or there is a risk of looking like they skipped a stage of childhood. This is the time when all there is to do is watch fashion trends from a distance and comment without trying them.
This doesn’t mean that age should make you abandon your sense of style; it means that you should trend carefully. It is not only what you wear but also how you wear it that matters. Among the things to stay away from include
Turned up collars
As you grow older, you should probably let your Polo shirt collar down, when you turn it up; it could come off as if you are trying to draw too much attention to yourself.
Skinny jeans and tight shirts
With age, skin becomes loose and the previously muscular frame gets flabby. The biceps cease to be impressive or chick magnets and the pot belly begins to show. As days go by, tight t-shirts can only be worn as undershirts.
Coloured pants
It is forgivable for younger people to wear yellow or red pants but what excuse can a 40-year-old father give for wearing them? That you are colour blind? Moderate colours like cream can pass in casual wear while brighter colours like yellow have no place.
Multiple accessories
A ring here, a bracelet or a watch there is okay, But when too many accessories are worn by older guys, it is a bit tacky. It is even worse when they are worn with official wear. Moderating in jewelry should be maintained as we grow older. You don’t believe me? Look up a Kenyan politician by the name Mike ‘sonko’ Mbuvi.
Overly coloured sneakers
Though old age shouldn’t restrict you to leather shoes, it shouldn’t be a reason to wear pink sneakers on dress down Fridays or very brightly coloured canvas shoes. It could make you seem like an attention seeker.
Go easy on sunglasses
Younger guys can wear sun glasses for reasons beyond protecting their eyes from sunlight. They can wear them when the sun has gone down or before it rises and no one will say hoot, but when a 40-year-old wears them past 6:00 pm it will be assumed that he didn’t have a chance to wear them when he was younger.
