The ‘finance manager’

Every year student’s graduate, but not everyone gets hired. It is not popular that everyone gets employed after graduation, but the growth of lounging graduates is alarming. Even the universities know exactly how many of their students have a job.

I found it fascinating when I was told that less than 50 per cent of the students who had graduated the previous year had jobs. Who is to blame? I can tell you now that it is the students. After university, they went home with one thing in mind: "Getting a good job is all about who you know”.

You’d think that since these kids have received an education, they would be in a better position to be sensible. This guy called Tom sat home, waiting for someone to hire him. I sincerely doubt he can even write a CV or if he can, does he even have one ready for when a job interview comes through?

After some months, his father realised that the boy was wasting valuable time sitting home. So he suggested a plan B. The father mentioned that he needed more workers on his farm. When that topic popped up, Tom started hunting for jobs.

I saw him and it wasn’t pretty; the shoes he wore were worn out on one side; from what I could gather, he had walked all day with only a brown envelop. If you ever see a person that fits this description, stop them and ask them how you can help. You never know, they might be willing to work for you or someone you know.

When the worst came to the worst, Tom agreed to a not-so-fancy-job but it was far better than attending to his father’s farm with no pay.

Rumour has it that Tom’s father is under the impression that his son works as a finance manager of some big company and that he even has a secretary. For my own security, I will not mention what is rumoured to be Tom’s real job. Meanwhile his father has assured the entire village just how successful his boy is and perhaps it’s old age but I wonder why he has never sniffed the stench of hard labour when his boy gets back from his ‘fancy job’.
