The high Commissioner to Ghana, Joseph Habineza, yesterday presented his letters of credence to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
Habineza, who is based in Abuja, Nigeria, was congratulated by Mahama upon his accreditation, a statement from the High Commission said.
Mahama expressed his wish to see bilateral ties between Ghana and Rwanda grows further following the accreditation of the envoy.
"The President emphasised on the draft of the General Cooperation Agreement submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and insisted it should be signed and implemented,” reads the statement.
During the meeting, Habineza recalled the courageous attitude that characterised the Ghanaian contingent that was part of the UN peacekeeping mission in Rwanda during the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994, when they chose to remain in Rwanda even as the UN had ordered peacekeepers’ withdrawal.
He briefed President Mahama on the post-Genocide Rwanda’s recovery process and the business opportunities that the country offers.
