The Chief of Defence Staff of Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, on Thursday, September 14, met with the head of the Ad Hoc Verification Mechanism for DR Congo, Lt Gen Nassone João and his delegation, in Kigali.
"The two sides discussed the current security situation and reviewed the progress and bottlenecks towards the implementation of the Luanda Roadmap and the Nairobi Peace Processes,” the RDF said in a post on X.

The Ad Hoc Verification Mechanism, which monitors security incidents along the border between Rwanda and DR Congo, was established as part of efforts by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and East African Community (EAC) to restore peace and security in eastern DR Congo.

The regional processes also mediate the two countries’ efforts to normalise relations, which became tense after DR Congo accused Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebels - allegations Kigali dismissed.
Rwanda accuses DR Congo’s armed forces of violating its airspace and collaborating with the terrorist militia FDLR, which is responsible for various attacks on Rwandan territory.
Congolese warplanes violated Rwanda’s airspace at least three times since November 2022, in addition to rocket shelling incidents that injured civilians in northern Rwanda earlier in the year.
