Lions rugby clubs for both men and women were crowned champions for this year’s memorial tournament on Saturday at Red Cross grounds in Kacyiru.

The one-day tournament attracted nine teams including seven for men and two for women. In the men’s category, Lions defeated Buffaloes A 14-0, thanks to the 2 tries from Mendel Magyambere, who went on to be the Most Valuable player of the tournament. In the women competition, Lions won 17-0 against Ruhango.

Pool A consisted of Sharks rugby club, Lions B and Muhanga, while pool B included Puma, Buffaloes A,G Groupe Scolaire St André and Buffaloes. En-route to the men’s title, Lions B defeated Buffaloes B 26-0 in the semi-finals, while Buffaloes A beat Sharks 28-3.
