NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE—Over 90 members of the forum for Districts Advisory Council Bureaus last week held a meeting in Musanze during which they shared experiences to draw lessons on development.

Protais Musoni, the Minister of Local Government, who chaired the meeting called upon the council members to maintain self respect and to avoid doing things that contravene the law.

Highlighting the values expected in promoting progress, the minister called for quality service delivery, by setting high standards, having a spirit of excellence and efficiency.

Earlier, the members had held a guided tour of different development projects in the district including modern community settlements (mudugudu) of the vulnerable groups, constructed under their own initiatives.

They also toured Kinigi Cell where residents through fundraising have installed electricity in the whole cell, the Ibyiwacu Village where former poachers have turned into art and craft makers. The former poachers also build traditional huts for rent to the tourists.

Dr. Aisha Kirabo Kacyira, the President of Rwanda Local Government Authorities (RALGA), and member of the Forum called upon council members to uphold their integrity in the execution of their duties. Dr Kacyira is also the Mayor of Kigali City Council.

The members were also challenged to follow up and establish why the money from the government’s Common Development Fund (CDF) had not been put to use.

The Forum is under the Rwanda Local Government Authorities-RALGA, and is composed of the council president, Vice, and the general secretary.
