June 27
Semi final, 2nd leg
SC Kiyovu vs APR (1-3)
Sec Academy vs Police (2-4)
SC KIYOVU interim head coach Ashraf Munyaneza Kadubiri still holds on the hope that his side can make a surprise comeback to dump APR out of the 2014 Peace Cup.
Kiyovu will go into the return leg with a 1-3 goal deficit but a 2-0 win for the Mumena-based club can power them into the final. The second leg is scheduled for June 27, while the final is slated for July 4.
The military side snatched the win through Michel Ndahinduka, Papy Sibomana and Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza, while Ghad Niyonshuti netted a consolation goal for Kadubiri’s team.
"It’s absurd that we lost this game despite putting on a good display. We played a good game and lost due to stupid mistakes. It’s the two players to blame because their reckless mistakes may cost us in the return leg,” said Kadubiri.
The former Kiyovu player replaced Gilbert Yaoundé Kanyankole, who resigned last Friday and is reported to have gone to his former Burundian club, Vital’O.
Kadubiri added, "We have a chance of winning the return leg. We have a one-goal cushion and if we can get two goals and stop APR from scoring, then we are in the final. I have no doubts that we have the ability to knock APR out of the competition.” Regarding the absence of suspended duo of Hussein Habimana and Mukamba Musombwa, Kadubiri said, "I don’t think we have any problem because we have other reliable defenders to take up their positions.”
APR will also miss the suspended defensive pair of skipper Ismail Nshutiyamagara and Emery Bayisenge.
In another semi final tie, Sec Academy will seek a 2-0 win over Police in the return leg to qualify to the final. However, Sam Ssimbwa’s side has an upper edge having registered a 4-2 win in the first leg.
