Reigning champions AS Kigali take on South Province-based Kamonyi FC in the battle for the national women football league title this afternoon at Kigali Regional Stadium, starting at 3pm.
Kamonyi are eager to become the first team in five seasons to stop the Kigali city-sponsored AS Kigali’s dominance.
"We all know AS Kigali is the best team in the league, they have more experience and have been together for years which make them hard to beat, but we will be out to do what most people dare not expect,” Kamonyi’s head coach Emmanuel Habiyambere told Saturday Sport.
His counterpart of AS Kigali, Grace Nyinawumuntu, who doubles as She-Amavubi coach, said in a separate interview, "We are hungry for titles as ever, winning this title will be spectacular for us. I have told the girls to keep the focus.”
Kamonyi reached the final after seeing-off Inyemera of Gicumbi District in the semi-final on an away goal rule following a 2-all draw on aggregate. The first-leg ended 1-0 in Kamonyi, while the return-leg was 2-1 for Inyemera in Gicumbi.
Five-time winners AS Kigali had an easy path to the final 5-0 on aggregate over last year’s first runners-up The Winners.
