Makeda Mahadeo, better known as Dj Makeda, is the voice behind The Switch on Contact FM. Makeda hits the airwaves every Monday to Friday at 1:30 to 3:00pm. The DJ, who also plays music at several social events, spoke to Doreen Umutesi about her fashion sense.

 How would you describe your dress sense?

I would love to say, "less is more” but sometimes I like to be a bit over the top as well.  So I will have to say my dress sense changes day by day.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

Just one? I have a leather jacket that I love; I wear it all the time. I also have a gorgeous dress that was custom made for me by designer Sonia Mugabo for fashion week last year, even though I can’t wear it much that’s one of my favourite pieces.

Where do you shop for clothes?

I’m not a big shopper; I mostly shop out of necessity. I grab things here and there. I usually shop when I travel.

What do you consider when shopping clothes?

If it’s on sale or not! Haha, no I have to really be in love with something to pay full price for it. Yep, call me El Cheap-o.

Your favourite fashion accessory?

Shoot! Maybe the jacket is my favourite accessory! If not, my hair I guess haha. Does that count?

What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?

Anything as long as it fits well. Oversized or outfits that are too tight are both unacceptable.

What’s your favourite scent?

The First Fragrance by Lolita Lempicka is my favourite scent.

Any fashion advice?

Don’t take fashion too seriously, just do what you want! Unless you’re a guy who wants to wear tight or baggy clothes, that’s unacceptable.
