RWANDA Football Federation has canceled a two-year ban slapped on the president of Rayon Sports fans’ club Claude Muhawenimana for allegedly inciting violence during a league match two months ago.
Muhawenimana’s woes stemmed from accusations that he incited fans to confront security officials after their 1-1 draw match against AS Kigali. He was hit with a two-year ban from football stadiums and a fine of Rwf500,000.
However, following a successful appeal to Ferwafa appeals committee led by Emmanuel Mahame Itamwe, Muhawenimana was found not guilty on all the charges.
His appeal comes after Ferwafa lessened sanctions for Belgian coach Luc Eymael, who has since left the Nyanza-based club and as well as the club’s former Secretary General Olivier Gakwaya, who has since assumed a new role as head of marketing at Rayon Sports.
Gakwaya was hit with a two-year ban from football following his involvement in violence during a league match last season. But his sanctions were reduced to an eight-match ban and the fine was cut down from Rwf500, 000 to Rwf200, 000.
