I would like to react on the story published in The New Times on Tuesday June 10 under the title: Police warn reckless drivers

I appreciate the work done by police to maintain safety on our roads. However, being a regular road user in this country, there are four issues that I see frequently and find worthy pointing out;

I am yet to see the traffic police clamping down on drivers that hog the road while talking on their mobile phones. Some even stop in the middle of a busy traffic just to hold a phone conversation. Such a dangerous act should be stamped out.

In most cases, when a motorist is stopped by the police at a traffic junction, traffic policemen do not guide the motorist to the side to continue with their checks and let the traffic flow. Instead the traffic builds up just because the officer is attending to the stopped car.

When traffic lights break down, quite often police officers just stand around and let the traffic go haywire. Traffic police officers should perform their duty once the lights are not working to prevent accidents.
