The issue is unemployability not unemployment

Editor,

I would like to react to the story RPF cadres tipped on fighting unemployment published in The New Times on Sunday Times June 9.

The biggest challenge for most developing countries is unemployment and yet the number of educated youth continues to grow, but with little or no hands-on skills. Rwanda is no exception.

Every year we churn out thousands of young people from universities with zero skills not to mention the questionable quality of their degrees.

They have degrees but they are unemployable.

The best way to address youth employability is to establish technical and vocational centres of excellence to provide the youth with skills that will enable them get jobs but also empower them to create jobs for themselves.

People should graduate from universities and still attend these centres for skills that will make them competitive on the job market.
