THE small town of Byumba was overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up at Gicumbi stadium to watch their favourite artistes perform in the on-going PGGSS4 road shows on Saturday.
Artistes started the day at Radio Ishingiro where they were interviewed as the events crew set up base at the stadium.
In rare twist of events, lucky fans had an opportunity to take photos with their favourite artistes while performing on stage.
The excitement in town was evident that Byumba residents were having a good time with the Guma Guma artistes.
Active was the first on stage and their dance moves gave the show a good starting tempo. With songs such as Pole and Udukoryo Twinshi among others, they couldn’t go wrong with the crowd. They were followed by Young Grace aka Lady Boss, who got a good response while performing Superfly and Like a boy.
Bruce Melody had people falling over themselves when he started off his performance with Ndumiwe. In between he performed Uzandabure before leaving the stage for Diana Teta who hit the stage with Kata and later performed Canga Ikarita although the crowd was not as responsive as they were when Bruce Melody was on stage.
Christopher came on stage next with Iri joro. The usually reserved musician was upbeat as he put on a good performance with Habona and Ndabyemeye. His great performance was soon over as he paved way for traditional music hit singer Jules Sentore.
Sentore opened his stage performance with Udatsikira, a Zouk song while dancing with Mc Anita Pendo. Sentore’s Ngera performance was by far the biggest hit with the crowd and of course he recited the famous Sentore family poem.
The biggest performers of the day were Dream Boys. Their performance got the crowd excited as they danced and sang along in unison.
Their amazing performance included hits such as Uhahe Uronke, Tubaye Umwe and Urare Aharyana. Maverick Senderi International Hit showed up on stage after Dream Boys’ performance clad in a pink suit while carrying a basket of sweet potatoes.
His stage performance was ok but not his best in comparison to his other performances. Hip Hop sensation Jay Polly performed in the 9th position but received a big applause from the mammoth crowd that showed up at Gicumbi stadium. Considered among the favourites to win this competition, he opened his stage performance with Deux fois Deux which the crowd sang with him. However, his strongest performance came when he performed Ku Musenyi.
Amag the Black was the final act of the day. His performance was not at its best but it ranked among the top performances of the day. On stage, he performed Care, Turi Kw’Ishuri and Mana yange. He also performed his Ibitenge and Simubure.
As it is with everything else, the show had to come to an end. It would be an understatement to say that it was good. Incredible performances and excellent organisation made it possible for Byumba residents to have a fun-filled PGGSS 4 road show. With five road shows left to the finale, next weekend PGGSS 4 heads to Nyagatare town in the Eastern province.
