The imposing new multi-million dollar Kigali City Hall will be officially opened in September, officials have revealed.
City of Kigali spokesman, Bruno Rangira said that the six storey complex in Nyarugenge District "will be a major boost to general infrastructural development around the city and improve service delivery by the city council.”
This was revealed yesterday during a day-long city infrastructural development open day.
The new structure, that has so far consumed Rwf 11 billion, will house the City of Kigali and Nyarugenge District headquarters.
Other new infrastructure
The CoK has accomplished a number of infrastructural development projects in various parts of the in the recent past.
They include a part of the 34-kilometre city road network construction and rehabilitation such as Former Eto Muhima road network, Kanombe to Mulindi road, Cercle sportif to Rwampara road, and ERP (Nyamirambo) to Rugarama.
Other concluded projects are, Rwabutabura water drainage, bridges at Kanogo and Rugunga, Rwampara to Gikondo SEEGEM street lighting, retaining wall protected by honeycomb block and greening near Kigali International airport.
Norbert Kamana, the city director for general planning, said that the city strives to develop the infrastructure.
We may say that we have accomplished over 80 per cent of what we had planned in the current financial year, though there are some challenges we met that did not allow us to perform to the perfection.
"One challenge was weather. It was very challenging to construct roads on hilly areas, during rainy seasons. We had to halt some works, so that the rains do not erode what had been put up,” said Kamana.
Rangira said that city authorities are impressed by what have been achieved, prior to the close of the 2013/2014 financial year, in as far as City Infrastructural development is concerned.
