In the afternoon, the first of the five games between Rwandan women and Ugandan women was held at Kicukiro cricket ground.
Uganda won the first game convincingly by 35 runs. After winning the toss, Uganda batted first and scored 103 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Busingye Damalie made 22 runs and Shakira Sadik 19 runs.
Rwandan opening bowlers Uwimana Sonia and Diane Ishimwe had a poor start giving away 41 runs in the first four overs.
But thanks to Pacifique Nyirandorimana (2 wickets), Diane Bimenyimana (1 wicket) and Betty Mukunzi (1 wicket), the hosts went on to reduce the run rate.
Poor batting from Rwanda women cost them the game after scoring only 68 runs all out in 19.5 overs. Veronique Iriho was the highest run scorer with 24 runs.
Uganda’s Prico Nakitende was named woman of match after getting superb bowling figures of 2/08 in 4 overs.
The fourth and fifth games are scheduled for today at Kicukiro cricket oval.
