Gasigwa misses tennis finals after losing to 6th seeded Havugimana

TOP SEED Jean Claude Gasigwa lost to 6th seeded Olivier Havugimana in the semi-final of the inaugural Axiome tennis tournament yesterday at Kigali Sports Centre.

Pre-tournament favourite, Gasigwa, 33, ran away with the first set 6-0 in just 19 minutes but the young powerful Havugimana recovered to win the second set 6-3 in 43 minutes before claiming the third set 6-4 in one hour and six minutes.

"Beating Gasigwa is everyone’s dream. I’m very happy for winning such a tough match. I’m looking forward for Saturday’s final,” the excited Havugimana told Times Sport.

In another semi-final, fifth-seeded Mathieu Uwizeyimana also booked a ticket in the final after brushing aside seed seven Hamissi Gatete in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 7-6) in a match that lasted two hours and 27 minutes.
