Gasana who also doubles as the Muhanga District executive secretary allegedly issued three separate cheques, two for Rwf1m each and one for Rwf1.5m.

AS Muhanga is sponsored by Muhanga District.

The development was confirmed by the Southern Region Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza on Wednesday.

"It is true, Gasana is in custody at the Muhanga district police station as investigations into his case go on to determine whether the case should be filed for prosecution or not,” Gashagaza said in a phone interview.

According to Gashagaza, investigations into the case, started last month after AS Muhanga failed to turn up for their last game of the 2013/14 Turbo King Football League season against APR.

AS Muhanga players and technical staff took the matter to Police after failed attempts to get their recruitment fees and salaries amounting to Rwf30m from the district, according to AS Muhanga coach Ali Bizimungu.

AS Muhanga were relegated from the top flight division league after finishing 13th in the 14-team league table standing with 18 points from 26 matches. Also relegated was Esperance FC.
