According to the chairman of the convenors’ committee, Linus Gitahi, the summit was pushed to October following requests from delegates and sponsors to give them more time.
Gitahi said the new date "will allow the delegates and sponsors to plan ahead for the summit”.
He said this year they will focus on managing mineral wealth for inclusive economic development, regional labour policies and practices for efficient businesses and investing in East Africa.
It will be conducted under the theme; "Positioning East Africa for Inclusive Prosperity in 2020 and beyond”. It will bring together over 100 entrepreneurs, financiers and government officials to discuss development issues affecting the region.
The summit was started in 2002, and it was initiated by Citi Bank, Deloitte, the Nation Media Group, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Serena Group of Hotels. It is held every three years.
Over the years, the summit has led to more support in areas such as boosting connectivity, value addition in agriculture, infrastructure, information communication technology (ICT) and intra-regional trade.
