ES KIGOMA beat APR 28-25 in a tightly contested handball league match played on Saturday in Kigoma to go one point clear of Police at the top of the table.
Kigoma now lead the table with 16 points from six matches, one point ahead of Police, who have played a game less. Second-placed Police won 37-27 against Groupe Scolaire St Alloys.
Alex Nshimiyimana and Richard Mwenedatas led Kigoma’s assault on APR scoring 12 and 9 goals respectively. With defeat, APR dropped to fifth position with 10 points from five matches.
"APR has too much experience but we managed to overwhelm them and win the game. It was tough and I must thank my players for their effort,” ES Kigoma coach, Medard Mudaherishema said.
Kigoma are looking for their first ever league title.
