Frank Ribery is known to be the most talented French player presently but the Bayern Munich star has suffered a slump in-form during previous two months.

He was nominated European best player of the year last term after leading Bayern Munich to the treble.

Though we all believe that to win games you need contribution from eleven players on the pitch, there is always a leader in terms of performance.

This leader in performance does not have to be the captain of the team but one with exceptional talent.

The leader in terms of performance is usually a player who does possess the potential to influence the outcome of a game or change the predicted direction of the game.

This is different from captaincy role. Team captains usually take the responsibility of organizing players especially on the pitch.

Now for the case of France, frank Ribery is not the captain but he is the best player in the French national team.

Frank Ribery who finished 3rd behind Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in this year’s Fifa world player of the year is expected to lead

France in the upcoming world cup slated to take place in Brazil from 12th June this year.

But the Bayern Munich star has suffered a slump in performance since the aftermath of Ballon d’or awards early this year and his decline in performance is a huge blow to French football.

He was very inspirational during the world cup qualifying play-offs against Ukraine last year in November.

France lost 2-0 in Donetsk, Ukraine but the French fought back in the second leg to win the game by 3-0 goals in France to qualify for the world cup.

French soccer fans had many thanks for impeccable performance put up by Frank Ribery especially during the return game.

He made an assist to each of the three goals scored and inspired the opponents to concede an early red card that weakened Ukrainians automatically.

His pace and strength makes him extra-ordinary and this has ignited European success at Bayern Munich.

His recent slump in performance has already been felt at Bayern Munich after exiting the lucrative Uefa champions’ league at the semi-final stage in the hands of champions Real Madrid.

Against Real Madrid, Ribery was totally marked out by young Spanish defender and former bayer Leverkusen right back Daniel Carvajal in both legs.

However, the situation or make shift of Bayern Munich team is different from that of France.

At Bayern, there are many stars or influencers of the game but when it comes to offensive play Ribery and Dutchman Arjen Robben are the most dependable stars.

Failure for Ribery or Robben or both of them to produce top level performance in a game has always left the Bavarians struggling as seen against Real Madrid last month.

The situation is different in France as Ribery lacks an opposite lethal pace-maker. The French team does posses average players who cannot easily influence the outcome of big games like in the world cup.

Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud and Loic Remy are good finishers but are the type of players who can only score in-front of goalmouth. Such strikers need quick balls from the midfield to score goals and ultimately win games.

Ribery is the type of man who can provide quick passes from the wing or midfield positions to support his strikers.

Now the question remains whether Coach Didier Deschamps will perform miracles to improve his game in three weeks time.

Ribery’s performance has been down since April. He was substituted at the DFB final against Borrussia Dortmund on 17th may this year.

Even when he came in to replace injured skipper Philip Lahm, he was less impressive. It is very unlikely that his performance status that has switched off since two months ago will be regained during the world cup.

Perhaps this is a man who needs a long vacation off-football to recover from mental fatigue.

Players like Ribery known for high imaginative power are usually susceptible to mental fatigue as they do usually combine both body physical strength and its mental aspect. Obsession is a common problem in daily life.

He might be physically fit to play but the brain will cut him short of brilliance to create scoring or match winning opportunities.
