Police in Musanze District are holding a man for allegedly killing his 53-year-old wife following a domestic row.

The incident took place on Sunday night in Migeshi Cell, Cyuve Sector. The suspect (name withheld), 45, was arrested by police on Monday.

The suspect said his wife had accused him of infidelity and used to spy on him, which deprived him of his privacy. He said on the fateful day, his mother, who resides near the couple’s residence, was visited by a woman whom the deceased suspected to be a concubine.

"She started quarreling. I ran away from her but she followed me…then I hit her with a club and she died immediately,” the man said in defence.

He added that their household had for years been marred by domestic wrangles.

"I did not intend to kill my wife. I apologise for my cruel act,” he said

Supt Emmanuel Hitayezu the Northern Province regional police spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding the suspect also injured his daughter who had intervened to stop the fight. The couple had six children.
