Students and staff from Indiana University (IU), in the US have applauded Rwanda’s principles of governance, saying it could be the secret to Rwanda’s economic transformation.

Sameeksha Desai, an assistant professor at the university’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs who led a delegation of 15 students and academic staff said the team was in the country to learn about administration, public health, environmental protection as well as good governance.

"There is not a better place to learn all that other than Rwanda,” Desai said yesterday following a visit by the group to the parliamentary Committee on the Economy and Trade, at Parliamentary building.

"The economic transformation Rwanda has experienced in a span of 20 years is unbelievable. The principle of holding government officials accountable, national security, peace and reconciliation, are hard to find in any other place,” she added.

The group that will be in the country for one week consists of 12 students and three academic staff.

Connie Bwiza Sekamana, the Committee chairperson said the visit was an opportunity for Rwanda to tell its own story of political and economic transformation.

"Their (students) interest in our country is a privilege for us to share with the world, our transformation from ashes to one of the great economies in Africa,” she said.
