Agric stakeholders to discuss ways of improving output at today’s meeting

The agriculture sector stakeholders will today converge at the Kigali Serena Hotel for the third strategic agriculture transformation meeting.

The Rwanda Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme CAADP II meeting is expected to discuss ways for the development of the agriculture industry through resource management, as well as improving human capacity and value chains, according to Raphael Rurangwa, the director general of planning at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry.

Under the theme, "the Role of Agriculture in the Fast Growing Rwandan Economy”the meeting will also discuss the need for more private sector involvement to promote large-scale agriculture.

"This an opportunity for stakeholders to review the first phase of CAADP and suggest a mechanism that will provide a clear strategy that will aid the country achieve increased performance in the agriculture sector through effectiveness, efficiency and competitiveness approaches,” Rurangwa said in a statement last week. 

The meeting will also review the role of agriculture in economic growth and that of CAADP in stimulating growth and food security in Rwanda, according to Claude Bizimana, the national project co-ordinator at the ministry of Agriculture.

It will also study how the alignment of the agriculture sector investment plan can facilitate the achievement of national, as well as sector development targets and Millennium Development Goals.
