After managing to keep Amagaju FC in the top flight, the club management is set to reward head coach Godefroid Okoko with a new contract.
Speaking to Sunday Sport recently, the Executive Secretary of Nyamagabe District, Jean Pierre Nshimiyimana revealed that the club management is pleased with the performance of the Burundian tactician, who took over last season.
"We are eager to keep Okoko as the head coach as he successfully reached his mission to prevent our team from getting relegated,” said Nshimiyimana.
It is believed that upon arrival early in the second round of the just concluded national league, Okoko was tasked to save the club from relegation.
Nshimiyimana said that Amagaju club’s poor performance is not attributed to the lack of capacity of the coach, but a spate of injuries and desertions by players Former La Jeunesse coach, Okoko arrived in Amagaju on October 31 2013 on a one-year contract to replace Abdu Mbarushimana, who was sacked after losing the first five league games.
Amagaju finished 11th with 23 points and they are in the quarter-finals of the Peace Cup where they will face second division side SEC Academy.
