Nigeria’s Super Falcons registered a resounding 4-1 victory over She-Amavubi yesterday at Umuganda stadium in the final round of the 2014 Africa Women Championship qualifiers to be played in Namibia from October 11 to 25.

The last edition was held in South Africa in 2012 and was claimed by Equatorial Guinea.

In Rubavu yesterday, eight-times African champions, dominated the match from beginning to the end.

The West African giants missed several goal scoring chances by midfielder Azizat Oshoala, who finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute and added a second goal five minutes later. The first-half ended 2-0 for the much superior Super Falcons.

After the first-half break, Super Falcons netted their third goal through Esther Sunday in the 49th minute. She-Amavubi continued to push hard for a consolidation which they dully got through Clementine Mukamana, who whipped in a fantastic free-kick.

Nigeria’s fourth goal came from a penalty that was well scored by Turkey-based striker Desire Oparanozie on the 71st minute after a fault in the box by Rwanda’s Alice Kalimba.

Nigeria’s coach Edwin Okon told the press after the game, "We deserved the win, we controlled the match most of the time and we had even prepared for the tie very well. Rwanda is a good team but still young. Given sometime together, they will make a solid side in the future.”

His Rwandan counterpart, Grace Nyinawumuntu said, "My players did what they could and we lost. I’m not very sad because we lost to the best team in Africa.”

The return-leg encounter will be on June 8 in Nigeria.
