President Paul Kagame challenged fellow leaders to remember their promises made at the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and bring about meaningful change on the continent.

Kagame was speaking at a dinner gala on Thursday evening, during a dinner gala held at Serena Kigali Hotel.

"Rwandans are pleased to welcome you all to the golden jubilee of AfDB. This meeting was more than marking an anniversary; it was about the serious business of moving Africa forward,” Kagame said.

"The responsibility to translate the aspirations of the African people into reality rests with all of us. Working together we can unleash the enormous potential of our continent and create the wealth required to improve the lives of one billion citizens.”

Dr Donald Kaberuka, the AfDB president, said that Rwanda is a source of inspiration to other African countries that seek homegrown solutions to their challenges.

"Rwanda was chosen to host this event because of its track record as a champion of Africa’s need for home grown solutions,” he said.

"We need exemplary leaders to take Africa to the next level and now that we have earmarked the way forward, we as leaders have a lot of work on our hands and we must perform exceptionally well to bring about the change we have all agreed upon.”

The AfDB annual meetings which ended yesterday attracted world leaders and experts to discuss a variety of topics regarding the future of Africa.
