A delegation of senior officials from the Southern Africa Development Community - Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre (SADC -RPTC) on Tuesday started a two-day study tour of the  Rwanda Peace Academy in Musanze District.

On the first day, the three officers and their hosts discussed how both peacekeeping centres can work more closely in enhancing capacity building in peace keeping operations.

Col. Sambulo Ndlovu, the deputy commandant at SADC-RPTC and the head of delegation said the study tour is aimed at learning more on how centres with similar attributes operate.

"We want to learn more about sister institutions that have the same business like ours. The reason we decided to visit Rwanda Peace Academy is that being a new facility, we felt it would have lots of ideas that we can tap,” Ndlovu said.

He added that there was a lot to learn from the academy, especially the way it has attracted funding from different partners.

Col. Jill Rutaremara, the director of  the Rwanda Peace Academy, said the visit presented an opportunity for the two centres to deepen ties.

SADC has over 15 member countries.

The RPTC trains civilians, police, military correctional service officers.

Rutaremara said Rwanda Peace Academy will also soon introduce training for officers in the correctional service.

The role of the Southern African Development Community Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre is to provide training for peace support missions in the region.
