Hosanna Kayirangwa, the ULK Genocide Survivors Students Association (AERG) co-ordinator, said during the visit to Gisozi Memorial Centre on Saturday that the commemoration was not only a gesture of respect to the dead, but also an opportunity to commiserate with the survivors. She said ULK has over 1,200 Genocide survivors.
Constatin Rukundo, the AERG national co-ordinator, said it is important for young people to get involved in commemoration activities.
He also called upon the youth to embrace ‘Ndi Umunyarwanda’, a national programme aimed at helping Rwandans to openly talk about the country’s history, forgiveness and reconciliation.
Dr. Jean-Damascène Gasanabo, the Director General of the CNLG Research and Documentation Center on Genocide, emphasised the need to educate the youth on the country’s history.
He also encouraged continued documentation of the genocide if details about it are to be preserved.
