National boxing championships set for June

THIS YEAR’S national boxing championships will be held in June, according to the Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association (Raba) vice chairman Martin Runyinya.

Runyinya told Times Sport recently that the championship will start in the first week of June and their mission is to involve younger boxers in a bid to improve the standard of the sport in the country.

"We are currently in the process of registering clubs interested in taking part in the championship,” Runyinya said on Friday before adding, "We want to engage young people to be involved in the sport because we believe this is the only way we will improve boxing in Rwanda. As a federation, we will try to stage as many competitions as possible such that they get a platform to exhibit their talents.”

Clubs expected to participate in the championship include; Kimisagara, Kigali Life, Rafiki, No Limit and Inkuba boxing club respectively.
