Young Tigers win by 55 runs

Young Tigers stunned league favorites Challengers with a 55 run defeat to book a place in this year’s Sulfo league final.

Like in all their previous league matches, Young Tigers’ inspirational captain Andre Kayitera led from the front with a blistering 68 runs which included a six and six fours to help the debutants post a modest score of 139 runs.

However, Challengers who had displayed consistent batting performances prior to this encounter had their worst batting display of the league when they were shockingly dismissed for 84 runs.

Evode Mutuyimana was the pick of Young Tigers’ bowling as he picked five wickets for just 12 runs to record his second bonus point for the club.

After the game, Kayitera was all praise for Mutuyimana.

"He was outstanding today. He got us that crucial bonus point when it mattered most. We are meeting Challengers again next Sunday and I’m hoping he can stick to today’s show,” Kayitera excitedly said.

Srinath Vardhineni also credited Young tigers for their disciplined bowling. "They were very disciplined in their bowling which I think was a key element in their win,” Vardhineni said.

The victory left Young tigers and Challengers level on 14 points, one ahead of third placed Indorwa.

Reigning champions KCC are fourth with three while Right Guards are at the foot of the table with just a point from four matches.
