Police in Kabarore, Gatsibo District has arrested a man who allegedly stole Rwf3 million from his employer in Kigali last week.

The suspect (name withheld) was apprehended on May 18 at his ancestral home in Karenge Cell, where he had been staying following the theft on May 15.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found with Rwf106, 500 while another Rwf2.3 million was recovered from his Bank account in Banque Populaire du Rwanda.

It is alleged that the suspect stole the money from the vehicle after duplicating the car key.

"I locked the car and told him to wash only the outer part, but I was shocked when I returned and found the money missing and he could not also be traced,” the victim, who preferred anonymity, said.

"I immediately informed Police and I am happy that they recovered my money,” she added.

Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, the Police spokesperson for central region, appealed to the public and the business community in particular not to move with such big sums of money and always hide their banking tools like Visa cards and cheque books to avoid such theft risks.
