Would eye surgery help me?

Dear doctor; I have had eye defects for almost a year now. I was given glasses which helps against the glare of computers and TV because when I look at such lights with the naked eye even for a minute, my left eye begins to feel heavy accompanied by a sensational pain. Previously, a spot on the retina saw a wound or so and it had pus coming out. It was treated with eyedrops but I continue to feel pain at that spot. Been using eyedrops daily for over six months now and that is along with the specs. Are there surgeries one can do to ensure ‘permanent’ repair? Sonia, 32.

Dear doctor;

I have had eye defects for almost a year now.

Sonia, 32.

Dear Sonia,

Working on computers for a long time does put a strain on the eyes and weakens the eye muscles. You have not specified as to what kind of defect you have in the eyes, but at your age, one usually gets problem of far sight. Regarding the wound on the retina with pus, any wound on the eye (as anywhere else in the body) heals well with suitable antibiotic treatment. A persistent wound indicates that either the causative germs are resistant to the antibiotic being used or there is some condition such as diabetes or HIV/Aids which lowers the resistance of the body. Please get a blood test done to exclude diabetes. Eye surgeries are possible and are being done in Kigali to cure wounds or defects in retina permanently.
