Jay Polly's performance was superb

For the first time since its inception three seasons ago, PGGSS 4 stormed Kabarondo town in Kayonza. The small town along the Kigali-Rusumo Highway did not disappoint as people were already at the venue two hours before the show was scheduled to begin at Rusera grounds.

The show started at 2:00pm.

In a rather unanticipated move, Senderi International Hit failed to take advantage of being on home ground—having hailed from this part of the country—to build on the incredible performance he put on during the Ruhango road show.

The day went to the incredibly talented Bruce Melody, dance maestros Active and Hip-Hop sensation Jay Polly. After the Mc’s Tino and Anita together with Dj Bisoso had warmed up the crowd, it was crunch-time and first on the stage came Diana Teta.

The first-timer in the competition has had an impressive run through the road shows and has continuously released new songs to push her further when the live shows begin. She started off by making the crowd dance to Canga Ikarita.

She followed it up with her new release Uwanjye, which though unfamiliar to the crowd still got them screaming. Her third performance was Kata, a song in which she talks about how all she has achieved is because of God’s grace. Her final act was Fata Fata which was very popular with the masses.

Up next was rocker Bruce Melody who stomped on stage and immediately got people nodding to his rock hit Uzandabure. His energetic performance could be felt with the way people responded to his songs.

Bruce followed it up with a remake of Tubivemo which is better version than the previous one. His last performance was the dance hit Ndumiwe which got people dancing regardless of the packed venue.

The self-proclaimed King of Hip-Hop, Jay Polly, was next on stage and his fans, who hoisted banners on which his name was emblazoned, went crazy. He introduced himself on stage singing Ku museny which was well known by the crowd.

Although there was a slight drizzle, it did little to deter the rapper as he continued with Deux fois deux while bare-chested. The hit single Ikosora was his next performance followed by Vuza Ingoma and lastly the hard pumping Oh my God.

Dream Boys were next on stage to a screaming audience. The visibly worked up crowd were wowed by their performance of Tubaye umwe. TMC and Platini next performance was Ungaraguza agati which they recorded with Riderman.

Their next performance was the Nshatse inshuti, an old song that was remade by artists under Kina Music. Urare aharyana was there next performance and they closed their performance with Mumutahsye, a song they did with Jay Polly.

Amag The Black took to the stage after Dream Boys and opened with Turi ku ishuri. Although the crowd didn’t warm up to him, he tried to put on a good performance.

His next performance, Mana yanjye did not work up the crowds but the crowd sang along with him when he sang Care next.  However, people enjoyed his last performance and left the stage after reminding them to vote for him.

Senderi came next on stage dressed up as a motor cyclist complete with an overcoat and helmet. The artiste who hails from Kibungo in the Eastern Province started by saying that his participation in Guma Guma is the pride of the Eastern Province.

His first performance was Abarayon, a song dedicated to Rayon Sport fans.

However, the song wasn’t well received and he changed to Turi mu muvuduko. He also performed APR FC, which is a tribute to APR FC and was well received by the crowd. Hailing from the east did little to get people dancing to his average performance.

Christophe performed next and people were already singing to his song even before he began performing. The smooth voiced artist has over time garnered himself a big following and from Kabarondo he got more fans. His performance of Uwo munsi and Rubanda were incredible.

Jules Sentore came on stage next and started off with Udatsikira, a song that was very popular with the crowd. After successfully getting the crowd to sing with him, he proceeded with Dutaramane after which he said his trademark Ikivugo cy’intore "traditional poems”. His last performance was Ngera, which was clearly the crowd’s favourite.

The other big performers of the day were Active group. Derek, Clovis and Tizzo have managed to get more fans and that is due to their superb dance performances. Their first performance was a carefully and well-executed choreography.

Ubigenza ute was the first song they performed and followed it up by with Aisha. However, the best part was seeing the crowd dance and sing along to Udukoryo twinshi. The ‘boys’ put on an incredible performance with a deserved warm reception.

Young Grace was the last artist to perform and was decently dressed after the jeans she wore last week got people wagging tongues. She started off with Bingo before getting to the center stage where did songs like Mpa Umusada and Party before the road show wound up.

Although the crowd was smaller compared to previous road shows events, it will take residents of Kabarondo a while before they can forget the amazing performances. PGGSS 4 will this coming weekend continue to Ngoma district, also in the Eastern Province.
